Prosthetic rehabilitation and orthopedic services.
The Georgian Foundation for Prosthetic and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation was established on the basis of the orthopaedic project of the International Committee of the Red Cross in December 2003. Its goal is to provide people with disabilities with physical rehabilitation services (physiotherapy, prosthetics and orthotics). To date, more than 10,000 people have used the services. According to unofficial data, there are more than 130 thousand people with disabilities in Georgia. About 10% of them have limited mobility. Patients with amputated limbs require prosthetic rehabilitation, and patients with functional diseases (neurological and other disorders) require orthopaedic services. Currently, the Foundation employs 18 employees of various professional profiles: orthopaedic technologists (international category II) and technicians, a rehabilitation physician, a physiotherapist, as well as administrative and support staff. Continuous improvement of their professional level is one of the main tasks of the Foundation.
