Prosthetic rehabilitation and orthopedic services.
The Georgian Foundation for Prosthetic and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation was established in December 2003 based on an orthopaedic rehabilitation project of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Foundation’s mission is to provide people with disabilities with high-quality physical rehabilitation services, including prosthetics, orthotics, and physiotherapy.
To date, more than 10,000 patients have benefited from the Foundation’s services. According to unofficial data, Georgia is home to over 130,000 people with disabilities, approximately 10% of whom experience limited mobility. Individuals with limb amputations require comprehensive prosthetic rehabilitation, while patients with neurological and other functional disorders need specialized orthopaedic and physiotherapy support.
The Foundation currently employs 18 qualified professionals, including internationally certified orthopaedic technologists (Category II), prosthetic and orthotic technicians, a rehabilitation physician, a physiotherapist, as well as administrative and support staff. Continuous professional development and adherence to international rehabilitation standards remain among the Foundation’s top priorities.
